I have it--you need it! EVE Diapol TWIST Polishers, ACTIVA BioACTIVE Bulk Flow, Energy CTZ1 and CTZ3 Cements
EVE Diapol TWIST Polishers
When it comes to fashion, there is no doubt that “beauty sells.” The same applies to a person’s smile and how their teeth and restorations appear. You may provide an excellent restorative surface, but without that finishing touch of a beautiful high gloss, your hard work may not shine. EVE, a world leader in rotary grinding and polishing instruments, has developed a simple solution to achieving a high gloss on nearly every type of indirect restoration with its innovative Diapol TWIST system. The TWIST design allows you to reach all surfaces and is available for intraoral polishing using a slow speed, right angle, latch-type contra-angle, and is available for use with pediatric (11 mm diameter) and adult (14 mm diameter) restorations. The wheels are preimpregnated with diamond particles that allow you to achieve a smooth, high-gloss surface with light pressure. The TWIST is designed for use on indirect restorations (but I have used it on direct restorations as well), composite resin, resin-modified glass ionomers, porcelain, denture-based acrylics, lithium disilicate, zirconia, bis-acryl provisional restorations, and 3D printed materials. There are three colors: blue (coarse for smoothing); pinkish-red (medium for prepolish); and gray (for achieving a high-gloss polish). EVE’s TWIST polishing system is a wonderfully easy way to finish your restorations and achieve esthetically pleasing outcomes.
ACTIVA BioACTIVE Bulk Flow
ACTIVA BioACTIVE Bulk Flow is a self-leveling, dual-cure, bulk-fill composite that supports remineralization and is a wonderful addition to the ACTIVA family of restoratives. It is a one-step, bulk-fill, flowable restorative that needs no additional capping layer. It is strong, with high wear resistance, and is highly polishable. It flows smoothly from the syringe, is self-leveling, and you can cure it to any depth, making it ideal for both class I and class II restorations. In restoring a class II cavity, I use it as my initial 1 mm–1.5 mm base layer on the axial-gingival floor to ensure a tight seal, prevent sensitivity, and support the remineralization process. Thus, it is well suited as a restorative in both pediatric and geriatric restorative care. Added benefits are increased radiopacity and that it has a chameleon quality called ShadeFusion that takes on the shade of the natural tooth structure, and because it’s less translucent, you will not usually need any opaquer, thus saving you chair time as well. ACTIVA BioACTIVE Bulk Flow reinforces the dentin hybrid layer and flexes like dentin. It also helps decrease microleakage and recurrent decay due to the apatite formation. Pulpdent’s ACTIVA line is a well-known bioactive restorative due to its release of calcium, phosphate, and fluoride. That technology is now found in this great new product as a simplified, easier-to-use version of the ACTIVA BioACTIVE Restorative in a flowable format that will be valuable in many of your restorative protocols.
Energy CTZ1 and CTZ3 Cements
Taub has introduced two great new auto-mix cements: Energy CTZ1 and Energy CTZ3. These certainly fit my mantra of “faster, easier, and better for me as the dentist, but also better for the patient.” The primary difference between these two dual-cure cements is the working time, which is indicated by the number after CTZ. CTZ1 has a one-minute working time, making it ideal for single-unit restorations; and CTZ3 has a three- to three and a half-minute working time, making it ideal for multiunit and full-arch restorations. Both provide a strong chemical bond to substrates, including 3D-printed ceramic resins; regular ceramics; nonprecious, precious, and semiprecious metals; titanium; zirconia; acrylics; and tooth structure. The use of a bonding agent is not required, and it has a minimal 10-micron film thickness with a high degree of radiopacity. The cementation protocol is the same for both: once seated, use a five-second tack cure, remove excess, and then fully cure the margins for 20 seconds. Both Energy CTZ1 and Energy CTZ3 are available in 5.4 ml syringes and CTZ1 comes in clear and white, while CTZ3 comes in A2. These cements are versatile and cost-effective, making them a valuable asset in your cementation process.
