I have it—you want it! Microtray

April 19, 2022
Dr. Howard Glazer reviews a promising new product or material to hit the dental industry. In this installment, learn more about the Microtray from The Quick Company.

Although I have practiced four-handed dentistry for nearly 47 years, I do know that many of our colleagues are true solo practitioners and practice single-handed dentistry (i.e., without a chairside assistant). With that in mind, a practicing dentist in Denver, Colorado, Dr. Jack Nguyen, developed a clever single-use plastic tray that adheres to the back of the operator’s glove.

Aptly named the Microtray, this small, plastic molded tray will adhere to your glove and provide a holding place for materials and disposables (such as bonding agents and 2x2 gauze and/or brush applicators) for easy retrieval during the procedure. The adhesive on the tray holds it to the glove quite securely and brings the materials close to the operative field. When practicing four-handed dentistry, the Microtray can be adhered to the assistant’s gloved hand to eliminate unnecessary, nonergonomic movement to retrieve said materials or disposables. Here again is an example of problem-solving by a practicing dentist, resulting in a product that enables the smooth delivery of dental care. Kudos to Dr. Nguyen for creating an innovative and useful product.
