I have it—you want it! Beta Mini

Feb. 28, 2022
Dr. Howard Glazer reviews a promising new product or material to hit the dental industry. In this installment, learn more about B&L Biotech's Beta Mini endodontic backfill unit.

My partner and colleague, Dr. Neville Hatfield, performs our practice’s endodontic procedures, so I asked him to evaluate B&L Biotech’s Beta Mini endodontic backfill unit. The following is what he had to say.

“The Beta Mini is a versatile tool that increases the efficiency of endodontic procedures. Whether utilizing Dr. Schilder’s warm vertical obturation technique, or needing to fill a fin between adjacent canals, the Beta Mini is comfortable to use and easy to handle. The overall design is reminiscent of a composite compule-dispensing gun, which lends to its ease of use and efficiency. With the simple and controlled squeeze of the lever, filling canal space has never been easier. You can choose from 20-, 23-, or 25-gauge dispensing tips and bend them to the optimal angulation with the included needle bender. The dispensing tip can swivel after being bent so you don’t have to twist the unit or your wrist to perform a stable backfill. Have you ever needed to backfill a large molar case and the unit you’re using runs out of gutta percha halfway through? With the Beta Mini, the mechanism of reloading the gutta percha is simple. It uses individual pellets, resulting in less waste and making it more economical with a savings on dispensing needles. This is done through its plunger mechanism, similar to local anesthetic syringes. Finally, one of the most beneficial parts of the Beta Mini’s design is that it heats the gutta percha to whatever temperature you prefer. There are four heating temperatures from 150°–230°C. In my opinion, if you are looking for an efficient and well-designed endodontic backfill unit, B&L Biotech’s Beta Mini should be high on your list.”
