Many people have lost sight of keeping enjoyment, pleasure and delight in their daily lives. Do you feel deprived of these satisfactions because of the stress factors in your life? If so, take time to look for the joy that occurs in your daily life. Take a break. Have some fun. Joy and humor are essential ingredients in a balanced life, but with the pressures of dentistry, business, family and a myriad of commitments, sometimes joy is left out of the recipe for daily living.
What gives you joy? Take some time to identify what you really like to do or experience. It could be as simple as taking a long walk or listening to your favorite music. Share your joys with your spouse and children and youíll multiply the joy and enrich others lives as well.
Itís okay to lighten up at the office, too. You have endless opportunities to share joyful moments with staff members and patients. Even when things seem to be going wrong, if you really think about it, the odds are that you can find something humorous on which to focus. A hearty laugh or an enjoyable activity will refresh you and can turn a troubling day into a light-hearted, positive one. Remember, your own attitude dictates what kind of a day you will experience.
Has your sense of humor been lying dormant? A shortage of humor makes it difficult to reap the joys of a balanced life. Cultivate your sense of humor. Add joy into your life and the lives of those around you. You will be healthier and happier.
Does it work? Think about people you know who obviously have joy in their lives. They seem to have a natural joy of living. They express gratitude for the good they find in their lives every day. Their attitudes and confidence rub off on all those with whom they interact.
Dwelling on troubles shuts out experiences that are just waiting to be enjoyed. Turn your thoughts to happy things. Observe and enjoy the good that surrounds you. Donít deprive yourself of the joys that are there for you if you will open your heart, your eyes and your thoughts to what is good and pleasant.
