I have it—you want it! Ceramir Protect LC

Dec. 29, 2021
Dr. Howard Glazer reviews a promising new product or material to hit the dental industry. In this installment, learn more about Ceramir Protect LC from Doxa Dental.

Doxa Dental is well-known for its bioceramic Ceramir Cement, and more recently, for Ceramir Restore, a glass-ionomer restorative with the added feature of calcium aluminate. It seems only natural, then, that they would develop a good resin-modified pulpal protection material, aptly named Ceramir Protect LC, in an easy-to-use syringe format.

This valuable, moisture-tolerant, insoluble, insulating, and protective material has a high pH value that provides hydroxyapatite formation and stimulation of tertiary dentin. Ceramir Protect LC provides more calcium release than several competitor materials, and due to the high pH, creates a hostile environment for bacteria. Consequently, there are many indications for this material, such as both direct and indirect pulp-capping procedures; mechanical pulp exposure; under alloy and composite materials in class I and II restorations; under cements; pulpal trauma; and as an alternative to calcium hydroxide. Application to moist dentin should be .5 mm, and it photo-cures in only 20 seconds. I am happy to see Doxa move in the direction of premixed materials, and this is an important contribution to protect the pulp, reduce sensitivity, and promote dentinal health in deep restorations.
