It is with great pleasure that I present to you the new Dental Economics.

It is with great pleasure that I present to you the new Dental Economics.

Our profession has been dramatically and permanently changed in the past decade, and we need media that reflect these changes. Dentists today need to be armed with data, best practices, and transparent accounts of the successes and failures of others. We learn and thrive together.

Our time each day is limited. Our attention spans are battlegrounds. Dental Economics has been an indispensable resource for us for so long, and it must evolve to continue to play that role. Starting with this issue, you will notice a fresh look and feel to your favorite columns. We've deconstructed and rebuilt our layouts to help tell better stories. Many thanks and much admiration go to our Managing Editor Zac Kulsrud and our Editorial Art Director Chad Wimmer.

I have reorganized DE's content into four sections: Macroeconomics, Practice, Science & Tech, and Money.

Macroeconomics: In the past decade, what are the political, legal, ethical, and financial forces at play that have changed the way we practice? How will these trends shape the way we practice 10 years from now?

Practice: DE has always been an indispensable resource for practice management advice from the best in the business. Leading your dental team, responsible marketing, smooth-running treatment systems ... the list of what it takes to run a dental practice is forever growing.

Science & Tech: Our practices continue to enjoy a revolution in technology. The way a dentist practiced in 1950 wasn't radically different from 1960. But today, a 10-year span of advancements in research and development will transform a practice. DE will cover the products and techniques that allow you to treat your patients more effectively and efficiently. In the Science & Tech section, you will find Dr. Gordon Christensen's "Ask Dr. Christensen" column and Dr. Joshua Austin's "Pearls for your Practice" column. Pearls will now be supplemented by Dr. Austin's new e-newsletter, "DE's Pearls for Your Practice: The Product Navigator," featuring engaging discussions and videos to help you find your new favorite toys.

Money: Keeping tabs on the money in your business and managing your own personal finances takes a team of professionals. We have some of the finest accountants, attorneys, and financial planners writing for us on a regular basis.

We have a few more evolutions planned for Dental Economics and its digital publications in 2015. I can't wait to share them with you. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy devouring this issue's contents and bringing them back to your offices. I wish you a bright and prosperous new year.
